The Nicole LeClair Welding Bursary was created in 2019 to support welding students pursuing welding or a welding-related skilled trade at the post-secondary education level at a publicly funded post-secondary school within Ontario. Applicants must be residents of Ontario to be eligible to apply.

1. MADD Canada: Louise Joanne Twerdy Leadership Bursary $10,000

Deadline: May 31, 2024

Amount: $10,000 and additional bursaries of $5,000 each

Who is this scholarship for? MADD Canada’s Bursary Program is open to Canadian citizens who have themselves been severely injured or who have had a parent (or legal guardian) or sibling killed or severely injured as a result of an impaired driving crash and who are enrolled in a full-time, ministry-approved, post-secondary educational program for the upcoming academic year. Injuries must be catastrophic or severe and have had a significant impact on the applicants’ lives. Proof of injury and relation to impaired driving will be required. Successful applicants may not reapply in subsequent years.

From the Scholarship Donor: MADD Canada has restructured our bursary program to have more meaningful impact on students’ lives. Beginning in 2016, one(1) bursary of $10,000 will be awarded to the applicant with the highest score in honour of Louise Joanne Twerdy (see further details below). Additional bursaries in the amount of $5,000 will also be available. Winning applicants may not reapply in subsequent years.

2. CodeWizardsHQ Educational Scholarship

Who is this scholarship for? Open to grade 12 students or first-year undergraduate students. Applicants must have 3.5 GPA or higher. Preference is given to students in a STEM field.

As of 2022, we award $5,000 scholarships to fifteen (15) inspiring students attending a Canadian post-secondary institution for the upcoming fall semester.

4. 2024 Jean Lumb Awards

Deadline: May 20, 2024

Amount: 9 awards of $1,000 each.

Who is this scholarship for? There are 9 prizes including 1 entrance scholarship. Each scholarship has its own criteria, but students must be:

Enrolled full-time in any grade in a high school school or secondary school in Canada.
Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Of Chinese heritage.

From the Scholarship Donor: In 1996, a group of community representatives gathered to organize the Mid-Autumn Gala in Toronto to raise funds to establish scholarships that would be named in honour of Jean Lumb. The first Jean Lumb Awards were presented in 1998 at the first annual Jean Lumb Awards Dinner. Since that year, the Jean Lumb Awards have been presented to 100+ outstanding students who have achieved excellence in eight areas: academics, the arts, athletics, community service, defense of the environment, dignity of life, innovation, trades and apprenticeship award.

5. The Bank of Canada Scholarship Award for Post-Secondary Students

Amount: Various awards at $8,000 each

Who is this scholarship for? Scholarships are awarded to successful applicants who meet the criteria below. For this award, you must:

be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
be pursuing post-secondary studies (university or college)—either full-time or part-time—in a field related to the Bank’s work, including:

economics and finance: economics, computer science, mathematics or statistics, commerce or business administration with a finance major.
administration and operations: financial services, administration and business, project management, human resources, accounting, communications and web development, internal audit, currency production, knowledge and information management, security.

6. Betty Spalton Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Who is this scholarship for? This scholarship opportunity is for any student entering or continuing studies leading to a career in road building, road maintenance, or heavy construction.

Program of study may be full-time or part-time at any BC college, university, technical or trades institute
Open to individuals returning to school to upgrade skills or further their education
Individuals returning back-to-school to upgrade their skills and knowledge are welcome to apply.
Preference will be given to underrepresented groups in the industry
All applicants must be Canadian citizens.

From the Scholarship Donor: The Betty Spalton Trust Fund was established in 1999 to provide financial support to individuals obtaining an education in fields associated with the road building and heavy construction industry. Promoting diversity within the industries is a goal of the scholarship, applicants of all backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. The fund honours Betty Spalton, an industry and Association leader who made important contributions to our sector.

The Betty Spalton Scholarship is merit-based, and awards the successful candidate(s) $1,500 to be used for study and living expenses.

7. Ontario Hockey Federation Scholarship Program

Amount: 30 awards of $1,000 each

Who is this scholarship for?

To be eligible to receive a scholarship, a candidate must meet the following criteria:

Be registered with the OHF during the application season;
Be registered for three (3) of the previous four (4) years within the OHF in any capacity; (player, trainer, coach, official) (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23)
Be a registrant in good standing with the OHF; and
Enrolling in post-secondary full-time studies in Canada for the first time.

From the Scholarship Donor: The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Scholarship was introduced in 1997 to recognize and reward dedication in education and hockey. The program provides financial assistance to registered OHF participants to offset the cost of post-secondary education. Since its inception, the OHF has distributed more than $450,000 to over 400 post-secondary students.

The scholarships are awarded to outstanding young people who display commitment at the arena and in the classroom. The recipients are determined on the basis of academic achievements, hockey and community involvement.

8. Ontario Parks Association Foundation Scholarships and Bursaries

Who is this scholarship for? This collection of awards is open to students who are:

Canadian Citizens or Landed Immigrants.

Who is this prize for? This scholarship opportunity is for women, aged 16 to 19. It’s open to current secondary school, college, or university students in a Zonta region (or be citizens of a Zonta country). Applicants must demonstrate the following:

You’ll consider a career in electric power and energy engineering.
You are working towards an electrical engineering bachelor’s degree (or first professional degree).
You’ll be a full-time student in the coming academic year at a university or college in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or Canada that offers undergraduate courses in power engineering. The university or college must have an ABET-accredited, 4-year electrical engineering program. The subjects of typical power engineering courses can be viewed here.

Who is this scholarship for? Applicants must be under the age of 21 and meet the minimum height requirements for membership in Tall Clubs International—5′ 10″ (178 cm) for women and 6′ 2″ (188 cm) for men — in stocking feet. From the Scholarship Donor: Kae Sumner Einfeldt, founder of Tall Clubs International, Inc. had dreams of creating an organization that would promote causes that benefit tall people. In 1992, one of those dreams became a reality in the creation of the Tall Clubs International Foundation, Inc. The Foundation realizes the special needs of exceptionally tall people. The current focus is to provide scholarships to individuals under the age of 21, entering their first year of higher education, and who meet the minimum height requirements for membership in Tall Clubs International of 5′ 10″ (178 cm) for women and 6′ 2″ (188 cm) for men.

2. The Leonard Foundation Financial Assistance Program

Deadline: March 31, 2024

Amount: 100 Awards From $1,000 to $1,500

Who is this scholarship for? This memorial scholarship / bursary is open to students demonstrating financial need. Applicants must be enrolled or enrolling in an accredited undergraduate degree program in a college or university in Canada. In addition, they must participate regularly in athletic, fitness or military activities. Personal qualities showing a potential for leadership are also a requirement.

From the Scholarship Donor: The Leonard Foundation has a Charitable Trust and also a Financial Assistance Program for students who, without help from the Foundation, would not be able to continue their education. It is significant that Colonel Leonard placed emphasis on financial need rather than high academic achievement. He also believed that the recipients of his awards should have qualities for leadership so that Canada could grow.

3. Palantir Women in Technology Scholarship

Deadline: March 2024

Amount: $7,000

Who is this scholarship for? This award is open to women freshman, sophomore, or juniors who are majoring in or plan to major in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field. Additionally, the prize is for current undergraduate students actively enrolled in an accredited U.S., Canadian, or Mexican college/university during the academic years that the scholarship is awarded.

From the Scholarship Donor: We launched the Palantir Women in Technology Scholarship in 2010 to support and celebrate women who are beginning careers in technology. We hope to encourage women to pursue computer science, engineering, and technical studies, and to become leaders in these fields.

4. RE/MAX Quest for Excellence Scholarship Program

Amount: 40 Awards of $1,000 Each

Who is this scholarship for? To be eligible, entrants must be a Grade 12 student attending high school in Canada in the September 2023 – June 2024 academic year.

From the Scholarship Donor: RE/MAX Canada is now accepting submissions for the 2024 RE/MAX Quest for Excellence scholarship program, which is open from September 12th, 2023 through to March 13th, 2024. The annual program awards a $1,000 scholarship to 40 graduating high-school students in Canada, presented during their commencement ceremonies.

5. Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command and Ladies Auxiliary 2023 – 2024 Bursary Program

Deadline: March 29, 2024

Amount: $1,250 Each

Who is this scholarship for? This program is open to students currently enrolled a post-secondary education. Applicants must apply to OSAP or their provincial equivalent. Students must also meet one of the following criteria:

Ex-service personnel or currently serving members of The Canadian Forces (Regular, Reserve, and Merchant
Navy) or their spouse, child, or grandchild.
Commonwealth war veterans or their spouse, child, and grandchild.
An Ordinary and Life member of The Royal Canadian Legion or their spouse, child, or grandchild.
An Associate member of The Royal Canadian Legion or their child.
A member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary or a child or grandchild of an LA member.
Stepchildren and step grandchildren may also be considered where applicable.

From the Scholarship Donor: The Bursary Program is designed to assist those students who are entering or continuing their post secondary education (including courses and training programs of a technical and vocational nature) and pursue the same course throughout their academic years.

Approved bursary assistance is not based upon scholastic standing but rather on the successful admission status to a postsecondary institution or successful completion of one or more years leading to a recognized degree, diploma or certificate.

6. Vertex Foundation Scholarship Program

Deadline: March 2024

Amount: $5,000

Who is this scholarship for? The scholarship is open to all legal residents of the U.S. or Canada who are full-time or part-time students in good academic standing at an accredited institution. Applicants must have been diagnosed with CF or be an immediate family member of someone diagnosed with CF.

From the Scholarship Donor: The Vertex Foundation Scholarship helps people with cystic fibrosis (CF) and their families (siblings, caregivers and children) pursue two-year, three-year, four-year or graduate degrees by offsetting some of the cost of attending college or graduate school. The Vertex Foundation awarded 88 scholarships for the 2022-2023 school year, changing the lives of those students and enabling them to take their education and lives further.

7. Kochhar & Co. Scholarship

Deadline: March 31, 2024

Amount: $1,000

Who is this scholarship for? To be eligible for this prize, students must meet the following requirements:

Attend college or university on a full-time or part-time basis no later than September 2024.
Have achieved a GPA of 2.5 or greater during their last academic year.
Submit an answer to the essay question no later than 11:59 PM EST on the day of the deadline.
Be a resident of one of the following countries:
- Canada
- United States

Chartered Professional Accountant was founded in 2011 by Biki Kochhar, a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant, with a small office and a single staff member. Kochhar & Co. specializes in owner-managed corporations based in the Okanagan Valley, and has offices in both downtown Kelowna and Penticton.

8. Stossel in the Classroom 2023-24 Essay Contest

Deadline: March 22, 2024

Amount: $1,000

Who is this scholarship for? This contest is open to writers in grades 5-12, (ages 10-18). Writers must be located in North America, Hawaii, or a U.S. military address, and all submissions should be in English. Applicants must submit an essay (500 to 1,000 words) on one of four topics.

From the Scholarship Donor: Every year, we hold an essay contest to give your students an opportunity to express themselves and win great prizes. This year, we’re giving away over $12,000. And we have prizes for teachers, too!

Students have four topics to choose from, allowing them to write on the subject that speaks to them the most.

9. Strike Group Canadian Immigrant Scholarship

Deadline: March 31, 2024

Amount: $2,000

Who is this scholarship for? You are encouraged to apply for this scholarship if you immigrated to Western Canada and are pursuing an education in the trades or post-secondary.

10. World of 8 Billion Video Contest

Amount: From $300 to $1,200

Who is this scholarship for? This contest is open to all high school and middle school students.

From the Scholarship Donor: Through the World of 8 Billion student video contest, middle and high schoolers are given the platform to think critically about global challenges related to population growth and share what they think we should do to fix it.
