The State of Kentucky offers several scholarships and grants for college students. Kentucky residents can receive a college scholarship based on merit, financial need, or career specific study plans.
If you plan to attend a Kentucky college or university, it may pay to submit an application for one of the prizes outlined below. The noted prizes and financial aid programs are offered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).

Kentucky Scholarship Programs
Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES)
The KEES program provides scholarships to students who earn at least a 2.5 GPA each year of attendance at a certified Kentucky high school. The better you do in high school, the more you earn toward college. You may also earn awards for ACT/SAT scores and Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) or Cambridge Advanced International (CAI) test scores. Home school and GED graduates may earn awards based on their ACT scores.
The total amount awarded to students is dependent on grades, test scores, and other criteria.
Early Childhood Development Scholarship
The Early Childhood Development Scholarship provides financial aid to Kentucky students who are pursuing credentials in the field of early childhood education. Applicants must be employed at least 20 hours weekly in a participating early childhood facility or be employed as a preschool associate teacher in a state‐funded pre‐school program.
The total award amount is up to $6,305.
Teacher Scholarship Program
The Teacher Scholarship Program provides financial aid to Kentucky students pursuing teacher certification at participating Kentucky colleges. To be eligible, students must complete the teacher education program. Also, recipients must provide one semester of qualified teaching service at a school certified by the Kentucky Board of Education for every semester of scholarship receipt.
The prize offers up to $2,500 per semester.
Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program
The Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship (WRKS) helps Kentuckians who have not yet earned an associate’s degree afford an industry‐recognized certificate or diploma. The WRKS program is available to college students and certain high school students who are enrolled in college coursework.
This prize’s total equals the amount remaining after subtracting federal and state grants and scholarships from the tuition and fees assessed by the student’s eligible institution
Optometry Scholarship Program
The Optometry Scholarship Program provides eligible Kentucky students the opportunity to attend a participating school of optometry to become certified practitioners rendering medical service in the Commonwealth.
The award amount varies based on available funds.
Osteopathic Medicine Scholarship Program
The Osteopathic Medicine Scholarship Program provides financial aid to Kentucky students pursuing a degree at the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of Pikeville.
The award amount is equal to the difference between the average amount charged for in-state tuition at Kentucky medical schools and the tuition charged at the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Kentucky Grant Programs
College Access Program Grant
The College Access Program (CAP) Grants help Kentucky’s financially needy undergraduate students attend eligible public and private colleges and universities, proprietary schools, and technical colleges.
The grant offers up to $2,200 at a two-year institution and up to $2,900 at a four-year institution.
Kentucky Tuition Grant
The Kentucky Tuition Grant provide need-based aid to help Kentucky residents attend eligible Kentucky private colleges. Students must demonstrate financial need and enrolled full-time in an associate or bachelor’s degree program.
The grant offers $3,200 to eligible students.
