Secret Tip for College Students to Win 2023 Scholarships

If you’re on the hunt for scholarships that you can win, your commitment to finding the right prizes matters. You can dramatically increase your chances of winning money to help pay for college by applying for awards that offer less competition. This can be a major element of your success.

The key thing here is to pursue awards that have fewer eligible students. For example, if you apply for a scholarship that is open to all college-bound high school seniors and current college students, well, that’s a lot of potential competition!

So, how do you find awards with fewer applicants and increase your chance of winning scholarships? Think local and think about what makes you unique. Start your search there.

Some of the best resources to find local scholarships include guidance counselors, community libraries, or an institution’s financial aid office. These sources of information can connect you with college scholarship programs helping students in your county or region. This means you won’t be competing with with high school and college students from across the whole country.

Additionally, you can look for scholarships that match with your unique characteristics. For example, there are scholarships for minority students, scholarships based on ethnicity, scholarships by major, and an endless amount of scholarships for hobbies and extracurricular activities. Put simply, there are many scholarship programs that invest in students for many different reasons. A good match is out there for you!

A Note About Eligibility for Scholarships with March Deadlines

Following from the point above, it’s important to examine eligibility requirements as closely as possible. As noted, applying for the scholarships that most closely match your profile can position you for success. However, there’s also nothing more frustrating than investing time into a scholarship application only to later learn that you’re ineligible to win.

The other benefit of understanding the eligibility components of a scholarship is that it gives you a better sense of what a scholarship committee is looking for. This can give you a leg up on the competition because you can create a personal statement catered to the right audience.

In short, the right prizes are out there for you. This is great news if you want help paying for education expenses. Without question, scholarships can help you take on fewer student loans, but they can also expand your future opportunities. A record of scholarship wins conveys excellence and that’s something that will be attractive to future employers or competition committees (grad school, law school, med school, etc.) that you apply for. Ultimately, scholarships make cents … and sense!
