Rhode Island Promise Scholarship

The last-dollar scholarship is designed to help students stay on the path to earning a postsecondary degree without taking on mountains of student debt.
There are no extra forms to fill out for this scholarship, only the FAFSA form that is required for federal student aid programs like Pell. The funds are distributed directly to the Community College of Rhode Island and are applied to the student’s bill for tuition and mandatory fees.
To be eligible, students must be Rhode Island residents. Additionally, applicants must be recent high school graduates (or currently a high school senior) or GED recipients and under 19 years of age.
Presidential Scholars – RI
The Rhode Island Department of Education administers the Presidential Scholars Program. The process requires that Rhode Island high school students get nominated by their institution and/or principal.
Eligible students must display outstanding academic merit. Evaluation by the scholarship committee will also consider community service, leadership, and perseverance over personal obstacles.
The United States Senate Youth Program for Rhode Island Students
The Rhode Island Department of Education administers The United States Senate Youth Program for outstanding Rhode Island high school students.
To be eligible, students must be currently serving in an elected or appointed position representing a constituency in an organization related to student government, education, public affairs, and community service. They must also display outstanding academic achievement.
The associated scholarship is valued at $10,000.
Rhode Island Grant Programs
Tuition Break (Formerly New England Regional Student Program)
The Tuition Break Program is offered by the New England Board of Higher Education. It allows New England residents to enroll at accredited out-of-state public colleges and universities at a discounted tuition rate. Exact eligibility requirements may differ based on the college or university program.
It is possible for non-Rhode Island residents to qualify for the Tuition Break Program to attend Rhode Island Schools. Approved Rhode Island programs exist at the Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, and the University of Rhode Island.
