10 Amazing Scholarships with May Deadlines: Win in 2023!

May is a month filled with academic transitions. For many high school students, senior year is coming to a close. This means that college is right around the corner. For current college students, the academic year has likely concluded. This is a great moment to pause, plan, and set goals for the academic year to come.

For both high school and college students, one major component of academic planning is finances. Let’s face it, the cost of college or university isn’t cheap. So, below we’re offering a list of ten amazing scholarships with May deadlines. However, before you scroll down, there are a couple important things for you to know.

Before Applying…

First, finding and winning scholarships are completely different things. In fact, they require different skills all together. Finding scholarship opportunities is investigative work. Winning scholarships is all about great communication. You have to know what scholarship committees look for, how to write a great story in your personal statement, and above all else, you have to know how to stand out from other applicants

The second important thing to know is that you should always take a moment to read and understand eligibility requirements before deciding to apply for scholarships. The terms and conditions of scholarships can vary a lot. For example, some scholarship programs are only open to full-time students while others are open to those studying part-time. Some are also only for graduate students. Some are based on merit and require grades above a 3.0 GPA. For other prizes, you must be a current high school student. The list of potential eligibility requirements doesn’t end there. There are scholarships for minority students, scholarships for women, scholarships for veterans, local scholarships based on the town or region you reside, need-based scholarships based on income, and so much more. Given the number of scholarships that exist for students (as early as junior year in high school up to graduate school), it’s helpful to know the various types of scholarships that exist. Equipped with this information, you can strategize about where your student profile makes you most competitive for winning scholarships.

Let’s get to prizes…

If you’re looking for ways to help pay for college, the points above should give you a leg up on other students. So, let’s get to some prizes. The following May scholarships are open to students of various kinds. We’ve included some notes on eligibility along with relevant links to each scholarship webpage.

Stop with May Scholarships!

If you’re looking for ways to pay for higher education, your search for scholarships shouldn’t end here. There are many resources that can help you find winnable scholarship opportunities.

The free BridgesEDU Scholarship Finder is one great option. After answering a few questions, it sorts through our scholarship database and matches you with scholarship prizes.

Of course, there are other resources, too. For high school seniors, your school’s guidance counselor is a great option. The equivalent for undergraduate students would be your college or university’s financial aid office. Both of places can connect students with local scholarships that tend to have fewer applicants. Fewer applicants also means less competition, which is great for you.

Additionally, you may want to consider using your local library. Many have scholarship lists for students attending college or residing in their district. This is one of the most underrated scholarship resources, so use it if you can!

Ready to Apply?

You now have a great set of tools to help you in your scholarship journey. However, if you’re feeling intimidated or, like many others, you just feel that scholarships are out of reach for you, we’re here to help. The BridgesEDU toolkit offers many posts that can help your applications win. The best part? The posts are free to access!

So, don’t wait another moment. Get those applications in and continue submitting them throughout the summer and academic year. You can often hold more than one scholarship so it pays to submit, submit, submit. Remember, scholarships can help you graduate debt-free or with fewer student loans. They also help distinguish you in postgraduate admissions (like medical school, law school, teachers college, graduate school, etc.) and future employment opportunities. Less student debt and a heightened career status? Sounds like something worth working for!
