How to Win Scholarships and Grants – State of New Hampshire

The State of New Hampshire offers a few scholarship options for college students, which are based on financial need.

If you do qualify for one of the New Hampshire state scholarships below, it’s important to know that you’ll need to complete a a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA determines the expected family contribution toward tuition and college expenses. It may also qualify you for federal aid programs like the Pell Grant.

In addition to the state-level prizes below, you can also find many other scholarships and grants that are given away by companies, religious organizations, fraternal groups, and other entities. Of course, it’s always good practice to check with family, friends, school counselors, and financial aid offices when looking for scholarship offers. New Hampshire Scholarship Programs

Higher Education Scholarships for Orphans of Veterans

Higher Education Scholarships for Orphans of Veterans offers financial aid to children of New Hampshire service members who died in active duty or sustained service-connected disabilities. Applicants must also be residents of New Hampshire.

Eligible students receive $2,500. The funds are to be used for room, board, books, and supplies at New Hampshire public colleges and universities. Qualified New Hampshire students may also receive free tuition through the University System of New Hampshire and Community College System of New Hampshire.

Governor’s Scholarship Program

The Governor’s Scholarship Program is designed to provide financial assistance to eligible New Hampshire high school graduates or recent high school graduates. The scholarship fund is for students who enroll full-time with a New Hampshire college or university. Scholarship award money can be used for tuition, fees, and direct costs of an education at a participating institution.

Any first year, full-time, Pell Grant-eligible student who earns the New Hampshire Scholar designation and meets the residency and academic requirements may be eligible for a scholarship award of $2,000 per year for up to four years. All other eligible students will qualify for a scholarship award of $1,000 per year for up to four years.

Unique Scholarship Programs

Unique Scholarship Programs provide scholarships to financially disadvantaged New Hampshire students attending New Hampshire post-secondary education institutions. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program.

This scholarship opportunity is given to New Hampshire residents through one of two streams: the Unique Endowment or the Unique Allocation. Scholarship funds vary from year to year. For more information, students should contact their school’s financial aid office.

New Hampshire Grant Programs
